Solid State Drives or commonly called SSDs, can increase laptop performance so that it is more optimal. Are you planning to upgrade your laptop's SSD? If so, before upgrading make sure you know the type of SSD.

SSD is a piece of hardware on a computer or laptop that functions as data storage by working with flash memory. So that it can help productivity on a computer or laptop.

SSD has many types, so it's not necessarily suitable for your computer or laptop. So before upgrading you should pay attention to the types of SSDs first.

Here are the types of SSDs that you need to know before buying:

1. SSD SATA 2.5 Inch

The shape is similar to a laptop HDD but weighs less. This type of SSD can be used on a computer or laptop. You could say that this SSD can be purchased at an affordable price and the average speed reaches 550MB/s.

2. SSD M.2 SATA

This SSD looks like RAM, has a smaller size, and is slimmer. Most of these types of SSD are installed in laptops or notebooks. Has a speed that is not much different from a 2.5 Inch SATA SSD because it still uses the Sata line. These SSDs have different types of sizes and dimensions.

3. SSD mSATA

Almost the same as the M.2 Sata SSD, only different in size and shape, the read and write speed is almost the same as the M.2 Sata. SSD is not so much used.

4. SSD M.2 NVMe

NVMe stands for Non-Volatile Memory Express. The appearance is similar to the M.2 Sata SSD. This SSD has transfer speeds of up to 6GB/s, depending on each generation. The speed is much faster than SSD Sata 2.5 Inch or M.2 Sata. Because the path used already uses PCIe or PCI Express lanes. Usually, the latest laptops or computers already use an NVMe SSD type SSD.

After knowing the type of SSD, you can now start upgrading your laptop or computer. Also pay attention to the specifications of the laptop or computer, whether the motherboard supports the SSD you expect. Thus the discussion about the various types of SSD.
